Bonanza, the first western telecast in colour recounted the story of the Cartwrights an imaginary family of ranchers in the late 1800s close to Virginia City Nevada an actual mining boomtown. The character of the show was Cartwright's youngest son who's mom Marie (in the first episode, and later Felicia) had been widowed and who lost her daughter to the fever.
